Grothaus, 85, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 12:40 PM at the Ft. Madison Community Hospital. He was born on December 19, 1928 in Ft. Madison to Bernard and Helena Brockman Grothaus. On September 25, 1971 he married Elizabeth Baur in Keokuk. Jim worked at Ft. Madison Bank and Trust from 1958 until 1976. He then opened Midwest Federal Bank in 1976 and worked there as Vice President, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Sacred Heart church and the Knights of Columbus for sixty seven years and was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus for fifty eight years. Jim was also a member of the Ft. Madison Lions club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for his numerous years of service. He was very actively involved with the Boy Scouts and helped them with numerous fundraising. Jim was also a member of the Elks Lodge, the Eagles, Moose and Isaac Walton League. He was very involved in many community activities and was also an avid sports fan. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Grothaus of Ft. Madison; a step son, Greg (Tracy) Baur of Marathon, FL; a step daughter, Cynthia (John) Hutchinson of Chatham, Massachusetts; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Rita. Friends may call after 2 PM on Friday, August 1, 2014 at King-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory where the family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 PM. A wake service will be held at 6:30 PM. The funeral mass will be at 10 AM on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. David Wilkening officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Ft. Madison Lions Club for local vision care or the Mississippi Valley Council Boy Scouts of America. Online condolences may be left at www.kinglynk.com
