She was born in Harrison county, July 5, 1831. Their children were: Joseph T., Oliver R., Edna B., and Alonzo B. Mr. Kirk owns ninety acres of land. He has practiced medicine for the last fifteen years, has held local offices, and is one of the most prominent men in the township. ------------- The following are highlights from James' obituary. The publisher and date are unknown. :::::::::::: James B. Kirk, second in a family of five children, was born near Oak Grove, Guernsey Co., Ohio to Joseph and Mary Kirk and raised on their farm. He "was a birthright member of Friends Church, Guernsey, Ohio." A paragraph of the obituary describes James' devotion to his faith. James married Elvira Ridgeway 9 April 1857 and they had 4 sons (locations are as of the obituary date): --Joseph T., living in Oak Grove --Dr. Alonzo B., living in Chisolm, Minnesota --Oliver R, deceased --Adna B, died in infancy Elvira died 7 November 1902. James married Lydia French on 22 May 1905 in Salem, Columbiana Co., Ohio. James and Lydia lived in Salem [1910 Census]. She died 2 November 1912. The last 2 years of James life were spent living with his son, Joseph, and his family in Oak Grove, Guernsey County. Special mention is made of James' finding joy in his young grandson, Roy. James' funeral was on 31 January at the Oak Grove ME [Methodist Episcopal I assume] Church and interment was at Friends Cemetery, Guernsey. [I find it interesting his funeral was not at Friends Church, but perhaps the church was not yet built or Quaker belief does not allow funerals in their churches. Notes by Vicki Edwards]
