Description	:	Mr. James Beery Hoover, 82, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on September 22, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center. He was born on October 16, 1934, in Harrisonburg, grew up there and attended Harrisonburg High School. Mr. Hoover was the son of the late Samuel Beery Hoover and Mary Strickler Hoover. Mr. Hoover attended the University of Virginia, where he studied accounting, was president of ATO fraternity, as well as the Delta Theta Phi Law fraternity and won several pool tournaments. Read More	Mr. James Beery Hoover, 82, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on September 22, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center. He was born on October 16, 1934, in Harrisonburg, grew up there and attended Harrisonburg High School. Mr. Hoover was the son of the late Samuel Beery Hoover and Mary Strickler Hoover. Mr. Hoover attended the University of Virginia, where he studied accounting, was president of ATO fraternity, as well as the Delta Theta Phi Law fraternity and won several pool tournaments. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce in 1956, and earned his law degree at UVA School of Law in 1959. That same year, he married Anna Kathryn Brubaker, and they lived in Harrisonburg for the rest of their lives. Mr. Hoover was a Certified Public Accountant and the managing partner of the accounting firm of S.B. Hoover & Company, (Brown Edwards & Company LLP) until he retired. He was a member of the Harrisonburg Rotary Club. His interests included riding horses, playing tennis and golf, playing the piano, and collecting wine. He is survived by a daughter, Virginia K. Hoover, a son and daughter-in-law, John B. and Heike S. Hoover; three grandsons, Hal and Jimmy Spurlock and Edgar Hoover; one granddaughter, Alena Hoover; one granddaughter-in-law, Hal’s wife Lourdes Spurlock; and two great-grandchildren, Donovan and Nina Spurlock. A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Friday October 6, 2017 at the Kyger Funeral Home, 3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22801 with the Rev. Edward Bachschmid officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sentara RMH Medical Center Foundation, James B. and Kathy Hoover (Anna Kathryn) Cancer Fund, 2010 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22801.
