Born November 23, 1919, in Smith River, Del Norte County, Jim moved with his parents, Nick & Aurelia Flocchini, to Ferndale, at the age of four. He graduated from Ferndale High School in 1938. Born November 23, 1919, in Smith River, Del Norte County, Jim moved with his parents, Nick & Aurelia Flocchini, to Ferndale, at the age of four. He graduated from Ferndale High School in 1938. After graduation, Jim moved to San Diego, where he worked in an Aircraft Factory until enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 21. He was assigned to the USS Tennessee where he participated in most of the major battles in the South Pacific from 1941 to 1943. He was then assigned to the USS Bowditch from 1941 to 1943. After his discharge, Jim returned to Humboldt County, where he was employed by Golden Gate Creamery. He later worked in the lumber industry working for Holmes Eureka Lumber Company which is now the Bayshore Mall, and retired from Cal-Trans. Jim was a life member of the Eureka V.F.W. Post. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Flocchini of Fortuna; two daughters, Bernadette Hamada and her husband Mik of Escondido, and Suzanne Flocchini of Oceanside; three grandchildren, Mikky Hamada of Los Angeles, Peyri Hamada of San Diego, and Hayley Hamada of Boston University, MA; sister, Nina Da Oro of Fortuna; brother, Charles Flocchini and his wife Flora of Eureka; sisters-in-law, Ruby Oliveira of Fortuna, and Margaret Flocchini of Forrest Hills. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Aurelia Flocehini; sister, Dominica; two brothers, Frank and Andrew; two sisters-in-law, Mercedes and Sadie Fiocchini, and brother-in-law, Henry Da Oro. Friends are invited to attend a Scripture/Prayer Service Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at 7 p.m., at Goble’s Chapel Fortuna with Deacon Tom Silva officiating. Private interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka. Arrangements are under the direction of Goble’s Chapel Fortuna where friends may call Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The family has asked that those wishing make memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
