Goltry, son of Jacob F. and Emeline Goltry, was born May 19, 1883 in the vicinity of Russell, Lucas County, Iowa and died November 11, 1933 at the age of 50 years 6 months and 22 days at the home of Mrs. John Arnold, Dudley, Ia., where he and family had lived caring for her after the death of Mr. Arnold, his wife's father, which occured four years ago, their own home nearby being closed during this time. Funeral services were conducted at the Columbia Church near Dudley by the pastor Rev. Jones and burial was made at Chillicothe, Ia., a few miles from Dudley. He was married to Miss Maude Arnold at Dudley, Iowa in October 1904, where they resided. Surviving him are his wife and foster daughter Miss Goldie Middleton still in the home, his 90 year old mother, five sisters and two brothers, Mrs. A.D. Drake, Mrs. J.M. Wright and A.R. Goltry of Russell, Iowa, Mrs. R.R. LaFollette of Ottumwa, Iowa, Mrs. Charles LaFollette of Siloam Springs, Ark., W.S. Goltry and Mrs. Henry Cooper of Red Oak, Iowa. Three brothers, two sisters and his father having preceded him in death. The pall bearers were his nephews, Ralph, George and Dave Wright, Paul Goltry, Frank and Joe Drake. Music was rendered by a male quartette singing "Meet me at The Eastern Gate" and "City Four Square" and a medley of hymns were played before and after the service. Although his going was sudden, shocking relatives and friends, we find he had been in failing health the past year, having suffered several heart attacks within two weeks of his death but seemed to be improving. His was a genial, sunny and uncomplaining disposition which made him a host of friends, but misled the ones in close touch with him in regard to his condition. There is a vacant place and grief in the home and among relatives and friends which only time can assauge. He was a great lover of home and the out door life in which he recognized God's handiwork. He had the gift of utilizing his time and cast away articles into useful and beautiful articles equal to factory manufactured, he also had the gift of carving, one specimen being the "Crucifixion" from stone. There were many floral offerings from relatives and friends showing their sympathy and sorrow to the bereaved. The Grim Reaper has again taken a kind and loving husband and a useful citizen who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
