Description	:	James Boyd was born July 11, 1846, at Chenango Forks, New York, and died at Fremont, Nebr., October 8, 1928, at the ripe old age of 82 years, 2 months and 27 days, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Ruth Currier, where he was visiting. At an early age he came to Illinois. In 1875 he was married to Mary E. Chapman at Burlington, Iowa. From there they moved onto a farm in Nuckolls county (sic), Nebraska, not far from Nelson. At an early age he came to Illinois. In 1875 he was married to Mary E. Chapman at Burlington, Iowa. From there they moved onto a farm in Nuckolls county (sic), Nebraska, not far from Nelson. To this union were born seven children, two died in infancy. Those remaining to mourn the loss of a good father are: Mrs. Mary F. Miller, Ft. Collins, Colo.; Charles Boyd, Gretna, Nebr.; Mrs. A. Grace McCreedy, Laramie, Wyo.; Mrs. Ruth E. Currier, Fremont, Nebr.; Mrs. L. Kathryn Lair, Cadams, Nebr. Seven grand children and one great grandchild also survive him. His wife preceded him to the land beyond in 1822 on December 8th. We cannot evaluate a life like his. We can only seake (sic) of few things and few dates which does not express his sterling worth. He was a staunch supporter of that which was right, noblest and best in the town and community. On coming to Nelson in 1896, he was elected sheriff of the county and he filled the office with credit to himself and honor to the office for four years. He was also elected as state representative in 1900, and at different times served in the state capitol in other capacities. He was at once an asset to every society and a promoter of things that make for the community's welfare. He will be missed from the church which he was a faithful and efficient elder for all of these years; was vitally interested in tthings (sic) that pertain to the Kingdom of our Lord; his conversation would indicate his deep interest in the worship of the Sanctuary. So that while his transition seems to us so sudden it was not so much so to him for he must have felt at home among God's people and was prepared to meet his Savior whom he served on earth. He will be missed by his children who took such care of him in his declining years. He will be missed from the large circle of his friends. He was a Christian gentleman, a radiant soul and his natural wit and kindly ways sanctified by the Grace of God, endeared him to his many friends. To live in hearts left behind is not to die. He that liveth and believeth in me shall never die. One night he slept in the everlasting arms of his Lord and Savior. Jesus slept, God's dying Son Passed through the grave and blest the bed; Rest, rest dear Saint 'till from His throne The morning breaks to pierce the shade. The body was brought to Nelson for burial Wednesday. Funeral services were held from the Christian church (sic) at two o'clock. Rev. S.H. Jones of the Presbyterian church (sic) conducted the service.
