Description	:	James Brookbank was born about 1801 in either Virginia or Kentucky. Jas. Brookbank and Elizabeth Jewell were married on 24 July 1825 in Spencer County, Kentucky. The couple and three children were enumerated there in 1830. "James Brookbank of Sullivan County," Indiana, was an entryman of that county. He received on 7 September 1838 the patent to almost 40 acres in what is now Hamilton Township. He farmed there until his death in 1865. There is no known record of the burial of James Brookbank. James Brookbank was a witness in 1865 in Washburn vs. Voorhees, regarding a contested Congressional election. He stated that he had voted in 1864 in Hamilton Township, Sullivan County, Indiana, for Colonel Washburn. The "Inventory of The Estate of James Brookbank Deceased," dated 29 November 1865, specifies "no widow." "Notice is hereby given that I will sell at public auction on Thursday, the 30th day of November, 1865, at the late residence of James Brookbank, deceased all of his personal property consisting of one horse, cattle, sheep, hogs, one wagon, farming utensils, household and kitchen furniture, etc." Valentine Moore was the administrator.
