DOTSON James Buchanan Dotson, 80, died at his home here about 8:30 o'clock on Thursday night, December 24. The deceased man was one of the first settlers in Galax, coming here in the latter part of 1904. Surviving are two sons, Sidney Dotson and Summers Dotson, both of Galax. Eighteen grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted in the Galax Friends church Saturday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock, by the pastor, Rev. Mrs. E. G. Key. I have no clue where it came from, but any references at all to TN are completely incorrect. His birth is recorded in Wythe Co., VA birth records, and he was in Wythe Co. census records beginning in 1860 at age 3.5. Newspaper Obit: Big Laurel, Va -- James Buchanan Dotson of Galax died at his home Thursday morning following several years illness. Mr. Dotson was a native of Clairborn County, Tennessee but had lived in Galax several years, being one of the first settlers in that town. Surviving are two sons Sidney and Summers Dotson, both of Galax and eighteen grandchildren. He was widely related throughout Southwestern Virginia and Eastern Tennessee. Funeral services were conducted at the Friends Meeting and were in charge of the Rev. Mrs. E.G. Key, pastor. Iterement was in the Galax Cemetery.
