There is no evidence he ever had a middle name or that it was Bushrod, although there are many family tree references and other genealogy sources that designate him James Bushrod Crump, perhaps to separate him from the many other James Crump persons in North Carolina. James may have been named for for his Grandfather James Crump - Adam's father - who lived near Dublin Ireland but never came to the colonies. James was again a representative when North Carolina ratified the Constitution, becoming the twelfth state to join the Union. James headed the North Carolina Militia until his death sometime after about 1805. His only son, John Bushrod Crump, II, named for his brother, John Bushrod Crump, succeded him in this position. James' wife was Isabelle Monroe, is said to have been a cousin of Pesident James Monroe.
