"Jim" Lewis*, 91 years of age, of the Bayboro Community, departed this life on Wednesday, September 28th, 2011 at the Loris Community Hospital. Jim was born in Loris, South Carolina on June 17th, 1920, son of the late Gorum S. Lewis Sr. and Lula Ellen Martin Lewis. Jim was married on November 19th, 1949 to Frances Wright Lewis. "Jim" Lewis, 91 years of age, of the Bayboro Community, departed this life on Wednesday, September 28th, 2011 at the Loris Community Hospital. Jim was born in Loris, South Carolina on June 17th, 1920, son of the late Gorum S. Lewis Sr. and Lula Ellen Martin Lewis. Jim was married on November 19th, 1949 to Frances Wright Lewis. He was a World War II Veteran. Jim lived in the Bayboro Community and was a Tobacco Farmer. In 1963 he moved to Charleston, South Carolina and worked with the Naval Weapons Station. He moved to Saint Stephens, South Carolina in 1965 where he purchased a farm. After retiring from the Naval Weapons Station, Jim opened a store in Alvin, South Carolina. He moved back to the Bayboro Community in 1989. Jim was a Baptist and held a membership in various Bapitst Churches. His most recent membership was at Bayboro Baptist Church. He was a member of the Omar Temple, Woodmen of the World, and the Masonic Lodge No#205. Jim loved to visit the sick, entertain friends and familly at his house for meals. He was a avid animal lover and gardener. Jim was survived by his loving wife, Frances Wright Lewis; one son, James Marvin Lewis; one brother, Wesley Lewis (and Lillie Mae) of Aynor, South Carolina; one sister, Alberta Johnson of Loris, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Versie Lewis of Loris, South Carolina and Doretha Lewis of Conway, South Carolina; several nephews and neices; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Gorum Lewis Sr. and Lula Ellen Lewis; and one son, Benedict Lewis, who was born on June 26th, 1953 and departed this life on October 29th, 1955; one sister, Estalene Collins (and John); four brothers, Howard "Bill" Lewis, Ashlely Russell "Ike" Lewis (and Ernestine), Gorum Simon Lewis Jr. (and Virginia), and Henry Ford Lewis; and one brother-in-law, Gary Johnson. Visitations were held on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011 and again on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011 at their residence. Visitations were also held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bayboro Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6th, 2011 at the Bayboro Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Bayboro Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Ocean View Funeral Home of Horry County, South Carolina. THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF JIM, What makes a man a Mason, O brother of mine?
