Strout, for more than thirty years an assistant librarian in the Library of Congress, died yesterday at Thomaston, Me. He was compelled by ill-health several months ago to resign his position in the library. His death occurred at the home of his brother. Mr. Strout came to Washington as a graduate of Brunswick College, Maine, soon after the close of the civil war, and was appointed to a position in the library. Mr. Strout came to Washington as a graduate of Brunswick College, Maine, soon after the close of the civil war, and was appointed to a position in the library. He was a man of intelligence and cultivation and a most assiduous and faithful worker. His duties were mainly in connection with the binding department, selecting books for binding and repairing, and these duties he conducted to the satisfaction of his superior. Mr. Strout was very retiring in manner and devoted to his work. He was well known in Presbyterian Church circles throughout the city, and organized the library of the Assembly Church, of which he was a member. Mr. Spofford, the acting librarian of Congress, under whom Mr. Strout served for so many years, spoke in appreciative terms today to a Star reporter of Mr. Strout’s services in the library.
