Description	:	James and Mary were married October 02, 1808. He was very prominent in town affairs. He was at one time a justice of the peace and a distinguished surveyor and "lot layer" for many years. James was a member and president of the New Hampshire State Senate in 1836 after having been clerk of the House of Representatives. From 1839 to 43 he was register of Probate for Merrimack County and was well known throughout the State for his intelligence and readiness to share his knowledge and store of information both in matters pertaining to his own... James was especially well versed in the local history of central New Hampshire and was recognized as an authority. He drew up several papers and interesting statements respecting archaeology and Indian history of the Winnipiseogee Valley, and of the several topics related to them. He was especially versed in the local history of this part of our State; became an acknowledged authority, and drew up several papers and interesting statements respecting the archaeology and Indian history of the Winnipiscogee Valley. On other kindred topics, some of which were published, and others remained among his surveying papers, proving of real service to more recent investigators. He served as justice of the peace.
