James was born at Eddyville, Iowa, on April 21, 1877, the son of George F. and Sarah Brouhard Besco. He married Teletha Means on March 20, 1907, in Appanoose County, Iowa. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 36 years and was a long-time employee of the H.C. Williams & Son welding shop. He was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy E. Dyer of Ottumwa and Mrs. Avene Nolte of Adams, Minn.; five sons, George F. Besco of Melrose, and Louis C., Paul M., Jerome Q. and James F. Besco, all of Ottumwa; 13 grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Layer, Mrs. Charles Miller of Downers Grove, Ill., and Mrs. Margie Steele of Fredric. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
