The body will be taken from the Hoskins funeral home to the church at 1:30 p.m. the day of the services. J.C. MCCABE, 73, was born Oct. 18, 1878 (sic. or Oct. 12, 1878 per draft registration), at Peekville, Mo., the son of the late W.H.H. and Lucetta ALTER MCCABE. He was reared at Milton, Ia., and came to Fairfield in 1897 where he had made his home since. He was united in marriage to Grace SPENCER on Feb. 12, 1901. The wedding took place in Fairfield. MCCABE was a truck gardener by trade and was better known in the community for his plants. He had sold garden plants to his customers over a long period of years. He was a member of the First Methodist church and the Men's Brotherhood class at the church. He was graduated from the Fairfield high school, attended Parsons college three years and was a graduate from Cornell college at Mt. Vernon, Ia. Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Helen YOUNG, Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Hazel WOOLEY, East Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Gladys ALLSUP, Iowa City; Lois, at home; Mrs. Rita GRIFFIN, Moline, Ill., and Spencer MCCABE. He is also survived by six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Yucca LITTLE, Decatur, Ill. Two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. ------- Note: The birthplace of Peekville, Mo. mentioned in the obituary may have been a now defunct town or possibly a mis-spelled reference to Peaksville, Clark County, Mo.
