Mr. Smith was born in Anson County, NC, a son of the late Conley Frank Smith and Bronnie Preslar Smith. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. "J.C" Smith, 86, of Lakeland Drive, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Anderson Oaks. Mr. Smith was born in Anson County, NC, a son of the late Conley Frank Smith and Bronnie Preslar Smith. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Smith was a member of North Conway Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Finance Director. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Pepsi Cola Bottling Company. Mr. Smith loved to make things for people and give it to them. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Cox Smith, his second wife, Irene Cox Herring Smith, a son, Marcus Conley Smith, and a sister, Ruby Dean Smith. Surviving are three sons, James Michael Smith and wife Janet Medlin Smith of Lexington, SC, George Craig Smith and wife Vicki Thompson Smith of Conway, and William Keith Herring and wife Marsha Boyette Herring of Mullins; five grandchildren, Thad Michael Smith (Stacey), Kimberly Smith Fortner (Kris), Travis Lee Smith (Rebecca), Nicholas Frank Smith (Lauren) and Christopher Craig Smith; seven great grandchildren, Caleb Michael Smith, Sierra Marie Smith, Ellison Grace Fortner, Alexia Karis Denise Smith, Zekariah Vincent Conley Smith, Erika Lee Smith and Skarlet Alethia Leigh Smith; one sister, Fannie Smith Sarvis of Conway; and a special friend, Leveta Mishoe of Conway. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at North Conway Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Gaskins officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
