Description	:	For fully ten years, that kind, old resident and pioneer of this locality, James Corwin, has been suffering from an exceedingly painful malady which death only could relieve. Until the time when he was first seriously stricken by the disease, Mr. Corwin was a familiar character about the village, and was highly respected for his many good qualities. He quietly attended to his own affairs, and in such an upright manner as to be will worthy of imitation. James Corwin was born in New Jersey Nov. 13, 1813. Early in life he moved with his parents to Ohio. On March 31st, 1835, he was united in marriage to Lucinda Meyers and in 1839, they came to Van Buren county, Iowa. To them were born eleven children, of whom four died in infancy, two in middle age, and two sons and three daughters survive to mourn the loss of their parents. Their mother died in 1886, and at 2 o'clock Monday morning, Jan. 10, 1898, their father was not, for God took him. He was 84 years, 1 month and 27 days old. He has been a member of the Methodist church for over 60 years, a devout believer in Christ, and a faithful servant of him and in whom he believed. In his later years, he was deprived of attendance on the means of Grace, by reason of the disease from which he suffered very much, but he bore his suffering patiently, never murmering [sic] against the One who is too wise to err and too good to be unkind, and now his sufferings have ended and he has gone to his reward. The funeral services occurred from the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, January 11th, conducted by Rev. A. E. Thornley, and the remains were reposed in the Bonaparte cemetery. Six grandson's of the deceased, Robert, James, Alex and Thomas Cummings, George Corwin and Walter McDaniel, acted as pallbearers.
