Read More	JAMES BOWER TO BE BURIED NEAR OLD HOME —— Former Athens Resident Is Dead at Home in Groveport. —— COLUMBUS, April 14. — James Crawford Bower, 93, oldest resident and last Civil War veteran of Groveport, died Friday morning at his home. Mr. Bower came here from Athens many years ago. He was a dairyman for years, his farm now being a part of the Athens State hospital lands at Athens. Mr. Bower was a thirty-second degree Mason and was the oldest member of Groveport Lodge No. 240. He was a member of Aladdin Temple and Scottish Rite and served on the state board of agriculture from 1891 to 1898. During his membership on the board he was president and treasurer. His widow, Mrs. Virginia J. Bower; three sons, Charles J., William S. and James Bower, and two daughters, Mrs. William P. Crumbacker, Pasadena, Cal., and Miss Katherine J. Bower, at home, survive. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the residence. Rev. Mr. Fowler of Canal Winchester M. E. church will officiate. Burial will be at Athens Monday with short services at the grave at 11:30 o’clock. The Sunday Messenger (Athens, Ohio) Sunday April 15, 1928. page 5, column 1 Short Services Held For James C. Bower —— Short services for James C. Bower, who died Friday at his home in Groveport at the age of 92 years, were held at the grave in the West Union street cemetery at 11:30 o’clock yesterday morning conducted by Rev. C. M. Coulter, pastor of the First M. E. church. Friends and old acquaintances of Mr. Bower, a former Athenian, assembled at the cemetery to pay a last tribute by their presence. The pallbearers were: John P. Dana, Andrew W. Ullom, Joseph L. Pickering, T. B. Warden, James A. Palmer and Wilson H. McKee. In the funeral cortege from Groveport were Mrs. James C. Bower, the widow, son, James C. Bower, and daughter, Miss Katherine J. Bower, also Miss Sue Maloy, who is visiting at the Bower home. Miss Maloy now located in the South was formerly employed at the Athens state hospital as private secretary to Dr. Richardson and Dr. Dunlap during their administration at the local institution.
