He passed away of cancer at age 76, April 30, 2002, at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. His childhood was spent in Monroe and Lucas Counties in Iowa. James married Mildred Blevins July 15, 1950 in Chariton, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Twila Elaine, Teresa Diane and James David, Jr. Mildred passed away in July 1985. He married Glenys Lambirth June 7, 1986. His hobbies were playing his guitar and harmonica, especially at jam sessions and nursing homes. He especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Park Avenue Christian Church and Southridge Mall Walkers Club. In addition to his wife, Mildred, his son James David, Jr. and his daughter Teresa Diane Egbert preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were brothers Glen and Joseph and sisters Ruby Clark and Mary Page. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Glenys; daughter, Elaine Davis of Des Moines; stepsons, Ray and Rick Gwinn, both of Des Moines, and Larry Gwinn of Green Mountain, Iowa; brothers, Donald and wife Mary Egbert of Naperville, Ill., and Henry and wife Bernice Egbert of West Grove, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sisters-in-law, Thelma Egbert of Des Moines, Roma Egbert of Centerville, Norma Blevins of Corydon, and Doris Tuttle of Minneapolis; brothers-in-law, Verlin and wife Alice Blevins of Creston, Iowa, Marvin and wife Joyce Blevins of Des Moines, and Charles Boston of Des Moines also survive. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines, with burial at New York Cemetery in Wayne County, Iowa. Pallbearers were Duane Egbert, Charles Clark, Tim Rybum, Ray Gwinn, Larry Gwinn and Christopher Gwinn. Honorary bearers were his brothers, Donald and Henry Egbert.
