Mr. Parsons has a stock farm of 700 acres, and makes a specialty of raising fine stock, which he handles on a somewhat extensive scale. At times he has had as many as 150 head on his place. Mr. Parsons was reared on the farm where he now resides, where he was born December 28, 1839. His parents, James D. and Elizabeth H. (Cressup) Parsons, came to Missouri in about 1838 and settled on the place where James D. now lives, which his father improved. His father was engaged in farming and stock-raising here until his death, which occurred on the 14th of April, 1852. He was originally of Virginia, but his wife, James D.'s mother, was born and reared in Maryland. In 1863 James D. Parsons was married to Miss Mary J. Durrett, a daughter of Richard H. and Sarah A. Durrett, of Marion county, but originally of Virginia and Kentucky respectively. Mr. Parsons' first wife died ten years after their marriage, leaving four children: James D., Ellen C, Hattie E. and Richard S. To his present wife Mr. Parsons was married on the 20th day of September, 1874. There are two children by this union, Elizabeth A. and Perry B. Mrs. Parsons' name before marriage was R. E. Baldwin, but at the time of her marriage to Mr. Parsons she was the widow of J. W. Morrow, who died in 1863. Mr. Parsons' farm is finely improved, and has every advantage for stock-raising, being one of the choice stock farms of the county. Mrs. P. is a member of the M. E. Church South. Parsons, who was stricken with paralysis on Wednesday evening of last week, died at his home Friday, April 9, 1909, about noon. Aged 69 years, 3 months and 11 days. Wednesday evening he went to the barn to do his chores and after being gone some time his wife called him but he did not answer. She went to the barn and found him lying in the cow shed. In a few hours after being taken to the house he became unconscious and remained so until his death. He was one of Shelby county's most progressive, enterprising farmers and stockmen and was highly esteemed. He was reared on the farm where he died and where he was born December 28, 1839. His parents, James D. and Elizabeth H. (Cressup) Parsons, came to Missouri in about 1838. His father was originally of Virginia, but his mother was born and reared in Maryland. In 1863 the deceased was married to Miss Mary J. Durrett, a daughter of R. H. and Sarah Durett of Marion county, who died 10 years after their marriage, leaving 4 children—James D. Parsons of Marion county, Mo., Ellen O. Wainright of Chicago, Hattie E. Teachenor of St. Louis and Richard S. Parsons of Oklahoma City, Okla. To his present wife Mr. Parsons was married on the 20th day of September, 1874. There are two children by this union, Elizabeth A., who lives at home and Perry B. of near Emden. Mrs. Parsons' name before marriage was Baldwin, but at the time of her marriage to Mr. Parsons she was the widow of J. W. Morrow. Funeral services were conducted from the family residence last Sunday at 10 a.m. by Rev. J. M. O'Bryen, after which the remains were brought to this city and buried in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Parsons of near Burksville died Friday following a stroke of paralysis received the day before. Burial was at Shelbyville on Sunday. Mr. Parsons was a highly respected citizen of North River township and well known in the county. He was very prosperous and leaves considerable property. He is survived by a widow, his second wife, and six children. Among these are Mrs. Ella Wainright of New York, Mrs. Minnie Teachenor of St. Louis, Miss Ada, Perry Parsons and Dr. Richard Parsons of Oklahoma City. Mrs. Teachenor reached here from St. Louis Friday and went out to Burksville. Miss Ada returned Friday from Quincy where she attends business college. Parsons of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Monroe Teachenor of St. Louis. His wife having died in 1873, he was again married to Mrs. J. W. Morrow September 20, 1874 and to this union were born two children, Perry B. Parsons of near Emden and Miss Ada Parsons. Funeral services, conducted by Rev.J. M.
