Read More	James David Thomas March 5, 1926 - January 9, 2020 (age 93) James David Thomas, age 93, the son of James A. Thomas and Grace C. Thompson was born March 5, 1926, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He died at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on Thursday, January 9, 2020. David grew up in Missouri and attended high school in Butler and Hamilton, Missouri, graduating in 1944. His main goal in high school was to play football. From October 1944, until December 1946, David served as a United States Coast Guard Merchant Marines Second Cook. He married Betty Jean Salmon on September 1, 1948, in Cameron, Missouri. The couple adopted three children, Margaret, Myrna, and John. They raised their family in Lamoni, Iowa. David was a master carpenter and spent his life building homes and working on other projects, including the Children’s Playroom in the Community of Christ Temple in Independence, Missouri. Over the years David worked in California replacing a church’s roof, in Massachusetts working on the buildings on the Community of Christ campground, and worked on churches in Andover and Bethany, Missouri and Albia and Pleasanton, Iowa. He also built over one hundred FHA homes in Lamoni. In his free time, he enjoyed birds, flowers, family, and football. Preceding him in death were his parents; children, Margaret Thomas and John Thomas; and siblings, Mildred Whitaker, Mary Helen Dalby, and Gracie Margaret Thomas. Survivors include his wife, Betty Thomas of Lamoni, Iowa; daughter, Myrna McLain of Lamoni; grandchildren, Mercedes McLain, Laura & Brian Klug, Jessica Bartelt, Megan Dougherty, James Tungesvick, Jacob Thomas, and Elijah Thomas; great grandchildren, Mariah and Mason; sister, Ruth Smith of Mesa, Arizona; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
