Born March 10, 1926, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Arthur W. and Gladys E. McKenty Arie. In February 1962, he married Mary Ellen Beckius in Denver, Colo. She died March 10, 1985. Arie, 81, of Fort Madison, died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at Fort Madison Community Hospital. Born March 10, 1926, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Arthur W. and Gladys E. McKenty Arie. In February 1962, he married Mary Ellen Beckius in Denver, Colo. She died March 10, 1985. He then married Patricia Fitzgerald Bergmeier on June 7, 1986, in Fort Madison. Mr. Arie was a communications operator for Aeronautical Radio Communications. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison, VFW, DAV, Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Chosen Few. Survivors include his wife; one son, Bill Arie of Kenosha, Wis.; one daughter, Christine Smith of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; one stepson, Stephen Bergmeier of Athens, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Frances Barber of Trophy Club, Texas, and Catherine Weide of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Jack Arie of West Point; and one sister, Arlowine Brinck of West Point. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. The funeral mass for Mr. Arie will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Troy Richmond officiating. Burial with military rites by Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
