Funeral services to be held this evening at 7 o’clock at Chico Undertaking Parlors. Presumption That Body was Blown to Atoms Incorrect. The body of James Batham, the young man who was supposed to have been blown to atoms by giant powder about a week ago while he was in a boat with Clarence Shannon on the Sacramento river, preparing to blast out snags, has been recovered. Since the awful accident which caused the death of Batham and fearful injury to Shannon, the parent so Batham have had much hope that the body would be recovered, though the general impression was that the body had been reduced to fragments by the force of the explosion. Yesterday afternoon the body, badly mutilated, was found in the river about eight miles below St. John. The remains will be brought to the Chico Undertaking Parlors at 626 Broadway this morning, and an inquest will be held by Coroner Wallace, the body having been found on the Butte county side of the river. The funeral services will be held this evening at 7 o’clock at the Chico Undertaking Parlors, and the interment tomorrow morning. ~~~~ 22-year-old James Edward Batham was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on September 19, 1907.
