Read More	Bob Hicklin September 13, 1924 - May 24, 2016 Life Legacy Bob Hicklin, 91, of Oskaloosa passed away early Tuesday morning, May 24, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. James Edward “Bob” Hicklin, son of Thomas E. and Anna (Sellers) Hicklin, was born September 13, 1924, in Keokuk County. He attended country school and then went to What Cheer for High School. His freshman year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, May 7, 1943. Bob spent time in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe and was part of the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded two Overseas Service Bars, the African Campaign Medal, the European- African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was discharged, March 11, 1946, and upon his return home, Bob worked at road construction. He went on to driving a truck, do mechanical work, and work at Mich’s Coal Mine. He was lastly employed by Mahaska Bottling Company, from which he retired in 1987. April 12, 1952, he was united in marriage to Louise Chilcote at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa by the Reverend Dwight Walker and they made their home in Oskaloosa. Bob enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, and scuba diving; he loved being out in nature. In his older years, Bob enjoyed his home. Bob’s family includes a sister, Irene Rowland of Eddyville; a brother, Harry “Buck” Hicklin of Oskaloosa and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; an infant sister, Letha and a brother, Dale Hicklin. Funeral services for Bob will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2016 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery with Military Honors by the Oskaloosa Honor Guard. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors. Memorial contributions can be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
