Butler, 46, of 1007 East Fourth street, died at his home at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. The son of Otis D. and Lucy Napier Butler, he was born at Chillicothe October 11, 1907. He had been a resident of Wapello county all of his life and of Ottumwa for the past seven years. He was a veteran employe of the maintenance division of the Burlington railroad and would have completed 33 years of service today. His marriage to Pauline Padget took place June 30, 1931, in Chillicothe [sic-According to the marriage record for James and Pauline found in ancestry.com, they were married in Ottumwa.] He was a member of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple and of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes, Wapello lodge No. 1832. Surviving besides his wife are one son, Ronald E. Butler of Iowa City; three daughters, Patricia Joan, and twins, Lola Darlene and Lois Arlene Butler, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Lucy Butler of Ottumwa; two sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Eakins and Mrs. Howard Davis both of Ottumwa; and three brothers, Robert G. Butler of Kirkville, Henry C. Butler of Dallas, Tex., and Delbert Butler of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by one daughter in infancy, his father; one sister, Mrs. Elmer Shafer, Jr., and one brother in infancy. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Ottumwa Baptist Temple in charge of the Rev. A.D. Pringle. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Chillicothe. The casket will remain at the Johnson funeral chapel until 9 a.m. Saturday, when it will be taken to the church. Pallbearers will be Henry Shilling, Wayne Bates, Charles Rosenbalm, Glenn Chilcote, Robert Elkins and W.A. Gates.
