Description	:	ENOREE, SC-- James Edward Dyer, Sr. of Enoree, SC, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at the age of 85. Mr. Dyer served in World War II as a member of the Army's 1st Armored Division, Sixth Infantry Regiment. For eleven months during the war, he was held captive as a Prisoner of War in Germany. He served in the military for thirty-three months in all and received several awards, including battle stars, a Rifleman badge, a Good Conduct badge, and a POW badge. Read More	ENOREE, SC-- James Edward Dyer, Sr. of Enoree, SC, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at the age of 85. Mr. Dyer served in World War II as a member of the Army's 1st Armored Division, Sixth Infantry Regiment. For eleven months during the war, he was held captive as a Prisoner of War in Germany. He served in the military for thirty-three months in all and received several awards, including battle stars, a Rifleman badge, a Good Conduct badge, and a POW badge. Mr. Dyer received another award for his service and a POW flag during the war memorial dedication ceremony in Enoree on May 4, 2008. After completing his military service, He worked at Inman Mills. He retired from the Ramey Plant after working in the weave room for thirty years. He was also a member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church. Surviving family members are his wife, Hazel Simmons Dyer; children, Jimmy, Iris Waldrop, Steve, and Michael; and brothers and sisters, Donald, Royce, Edith Richards, and Betty Garrett. Mr. Dyer's grandchildren include, Angie Henderson, Cindy Gibson, Dean Waldrop, Mark Waldrop, Sherry Crocker, Tracy, Stacy and Chris Dyer. Dyer is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 12:00-1:30 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Forest Hills Funeral Home in Woodruff, prior to 2:00 PM graveside services at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church in Enoree, conducted by Rev. Stephen Cannon and Rev. Carrol Caldwell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
