"Gehop" Gelsthorpe, 63, of 2812 Avenue J, Fort Madison, died at 11:07 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 1993, at Burlington Medical Center. Born June 5, 1930, in Fort Madison, he was the son of George and Ethel Giboney Gelsthorpe. He married Sally A. Miller on Nov. 2, 1957, in Denmark. He had worked at General Electric, retiring with 20 years of service. He had served in the Army during the Korean War. He was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a drummer in various country and western bands throughout the area. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry M. Gelsthorpe of Fort Madison; a daughter, Cynthia Roberts of Fairfield, Ill.; a brother, Stanley F. Gelsthorpe of Wayland, MO; a sister, Artell Hull of Denmark; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home, Fort Madison. The funeral for Mr. Gelsthorpe will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at King-Lynk Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Aubuchon officiating. Burial will be in Hill Crest Memorial Park, Fort Madison. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be left at King-Lynk Funeral Home.
