Description	:	From the LaFollette Press, Thursday, July 13, 1972: LAFOLLETTE YOUTH DROWNS NEAR OLD ROAD James Orick, 19, of LaFollette, died in a drowning accident last Thursday afternoon between 5 and 5:30. According to reports, the youth was swimming with friends near Bob Miller's bridge on old Highway 63 (known as 'Old Road') where the water covers the road. According to reports, the youth was swimming with friends near Bob Miller's bridge on old Highway 63 (known as 'Old Road') where the water covers the road. Campbell County Sheriff Rose Kitts said that the Orick youth and his friends were swimming in water 25 feet deep. "Him and another boy was swimming. They was aiming to swim across the lake there," said the Sheriff. "He must have took a cramp and this boy who was with him tried to save him. He got to fighting him, and he had to turn him loose," reported the Sheriff. He said the Rescue Squad arrived shortly after they were called and had the body recovered in a very short time after they got there. The Orick youth is survived by his mother, Mrs. Wanda Orick; his sister, Judy; brothers, Steve, Scott and Kip all of LaFollette; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Orick of Caryville and Charles Powell of LaFollette. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cross Chapel by the Rev. Don Daugherty and the Rev. Clarence Floyd. Cross Funeral Home, LaFollette, was in charge of arrangements.
