Such was the faith and confidence in his Heavenly Father of our dear friend and neighbor, James Edward Reed. Son of James W. and Amanda Pickerel Reed, born November 20, 1882, near Marshall, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. October 19, 1904, he was united in marriage with Iota Myers. No children came to bless this union, but they adopted a child, who is now Mrs. Bernice Foley, who has two boys and two girls. These were Mr. Reed's grandchildren. He took great delight in them and nothing gave him more pleasure than to have them with him. A while after his marriage, he and his wife moved to Clinton County where he was a prosperous farmer. A few years later they came back to Highland County and lived on a farm near Rainsboro, Ohio. They afterward moved to a farm near Hillsboro. On account of his health and the health of his wife he thought it best to quit farming. They moved just a month ago into the village of Hillsboro, where he passed away November 27, 1944, aged 62 years, 7 days. While residing in Clinton County, he with his wife, united with the Friends Church at Center, where they retained their membership. Too much could not be said of Mr. Reed. Friendly, helpful, a good neighbor, honest and upright in everyday life. He was a familiar figure on the streets where he met his many friends. He had a large acquaintance attending many public auctions and ready to lend a helping hand. Such men are always missed but he will be sadly missed in the home which he cherished. with his good wife. But we will not weep because of his departure. While our loss is Heaven's gain we look forward to the time when we shall meet again. Besides the immediate family he leaves to mourn his mother, Amanda Reed of Clarksville, Ohio, two brothers, Wirt Reed, Hillsboro, Ohio and Clarence Reed of Middletown, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Vance, Clarksville; Mrs. Jessie Chrisenberry, Boston, Mrs. Mamie Vance, Hillsboro.
