James Edwards lived on his father's farm along of 240 acres along Eagle Creek for some time, but later sold it and invested in a tanyard, which he conducted for 15 years until his death in 1882. His father, George, and grandfather, James, established and operated a ferry in Aberdeen and were both involved in the laying out public roads and highways in Aberdeen. His grandfather, James, first settled the area now known as Aberdeen, naming it after the town of his birth. He married Nancy Tucker Jacobs on 14 Aug 1821 in Russellville, Ohio. Nancy was born on 27 Jul 1802 in Byrd Township, Ohio. Her parents were farmers. James & Nancy were both members of the Christian Church. James and Nancy had 13 children all of whom lived to maturity except one, the youngest child Mary Elizabeth. James & Nancy's 12th child Margaret Edwards Wallace was a frontier minister of the Christian Church living & preaching in rural towns in the west including Rockport, Missorri & Fullerton, Nebraska. In 1856, James took in his grandson George E. Howland. George was 7 years old at the time at had lost both of his parents. George was the son of James' 2nd daughter Susannah, who died unexpectedly at the age of 32. James & Nancy cared for George until he was 14 years old at which time, George left home to start working. After Nancy's death at the age of 32 on February 24th, 1848, James remarried to Rachel Linton on December 1st, 1859. James served as a Justice of the Peace for many years.
