Description	:	James Elmer Ostrander died February 19, 1970 at the Veterans Administration Center at Hot Springs, South Dakota at the age of 58 years and 11 days. He was born February 8, 1912 at the home of his grandparents, J. W. Ostrander's, in Rushville, Nebraska. His parents were James Edward and Mary D. (O'Neill) Ostrander. James lived and grew to manhood on his parents Cherry County ranch about 40 miles southeast of Gordon, attending the rural school there. Read More	James Elmer Ostrander died February 19, 1970 at the Veterans Administration Center at Hot Springs, South Dakota at the age of 58 years and 11 days. He was born February 8, 1912 at the home of his grandparents, J. W. Ostrander's, in Rushville, Nebraska. His parents were James Edward and Mary D. (O'Neill) Ostrander. James lived and grew to manhood on his parents Cherry County ranch about 40 miles southeast of Gordon, attending the rural school there. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre with the 25th Division. He entered March 3, 1942 and was discharged October 11, 1945. On June 30, 1943 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Esther Mayren at St. Pauls Episcopal Church at Adlington, England. To this union was born six children. The couple moved to the Star Ranch south of Rushville where James worked as a ranch hand and foreman for several years, then moved to Alliance, where he studied welding under the G. I. Bill for four or five years at the Adams Hay Rakes. He and the family then moved to Ashby where he worked with Roy Hebbert and later taking over the Hebbert Shop, building and repairing machinery for ranchers. James and the family then moved to Denver, Colorado in October 1956 where he was employed with the Smith Welding Co., building large road signs, seen as you drive into Denver. At the time of this death, he was employed with the Meyers Land & Cattle Co. Ranches, working as repairman and builder, having built several steel windmill towers, and hay stackers. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; their five daughters, Kathleen, Sandra, Toni, Carol and Cindy, two sons-in-law, Wm. Lovato, and Albert McCord, three grandchildren, Debra, William and James Lovato of Denver, Colo., four brothers, Roy, Melvin, Orville, and Tryon (T.E.) Ostrander and four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Thompson, Mrs. Mabel Thayer, Mrs. Ethel Trucks, and Mrs. Edith Bruns. Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, Michael James; two sisters, Martha Ostrander and Georgia Taylor. Funeral services were held at the Morse Memorial Methodist Church in Rushville, February 23, with Rev. Peter Trucano officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Rushville. Pallbearers were Blayne Beguin, Dennis Petersen, Leo Tiensvold, Martin Roffers, Stanley Wright and Francis Fraser. [The Nebraska Cattleman, April, 1970, page 38]
