Services were conducted by Rev. Lester Dickinson of Grand Island NE District superintendent for the Assemblies of God. Pallbearers were Charles Turner, John Lehn, Kenneth Cook, Richard Kirsch, Lloyd White and Herman Gilliland. Honorary pallbearers were Erven Lewis, Howard Smith, Henry Lowe, Paul Davis Sr., Claude See, Sr., and Rev. Harold James. Burial was at the Ainsworth Cemetery. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hallgrimson of O'Neill. James Emery Wilkins was born Feb. 20, 1881, to Benjamin and Elizabeth Wilkins near Pawnee City NE, and died May 12, 1966 at the age of 85 years, two months, and 22 days. When a small child, his parents moved the family to Beaver City. In 1884 the pioneers moved westward. Their nesxt stop was at Long Pine, where they spent the winter considering a permanent location in the area. The canyons near the Neobrara River were selected. There Jim grew to manhood and also homsteaded in the canyons. On Aug. 1, 1906, he was united in marriage to Martha Clay of Springview. Three sons and three daughters were born to them. In 1914 the family moved to a farm near Mills. After five years they moved to the Burton community, living there until 1960, when he and his wife moved to Ainsworth. In 1931, he was converted and joined the Assembly of God Church in Burton. He faithfully served the Lord the rest of his life. He was preceded in death by a son, Orrin on Jan. 7, 1912, a granddaughter, Ortha Marlene Wilkins, a great granddaughter, Rhonda Key Denny, his parents, and three brothers, Roy, Normie, and Everett. Surviving are his wife, Mattie; five children, Lucy Thiede of Burton, Lawrence of Kearney, Duane, Velma Peck and Irene Correll of Ainsworth; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one sister, Hattie Rhodes of O'Neill; three brothers, Orley and Owen of Bassett, and Fred of O'Neill, and other realtives.
