James Ernest Zweep was born July 1, 1938 to Ernest and Fern (Voelker) Zweep at the family farm rural Brandon, SD. He attended country grade school and graduated from Brandon High School in 1956. James Ernest Zweep was born July 1, 1938 to Ernest and Fern (Voelker) Zweep at the family farm rural Brandon, SD. He attended country grade school and graduated from Brandon High School in 1956. After graduation he served in the Navy. After his honorable discharge, Jim attended South Dakota State University. In 1960, he began his farming career on the family farm. On November 5, 1960 he was united in marriage to Sandra Simpson at Calvary Cathedral Church, Sioux Falls, SD. Jim retired after farming 30 years and moved into Sioux Falls in 2000. He then sold real estate for Hegg Realtors. Jim was a “people person” and believed in giving back to his community. He was involved in many farm organizations serving on local and state boards. In 1973, he was honored as S.D. Outstanding Young Farmer. He was a member of Downtown Rotary Club and The Elks. He also served as advisor and leader for many youth activities. Jim thoroughly enjoyed his 20 years as County Commissioner from 1986 to 2006. After retiring, Jim and Sandy became “snowbirds”, wintering in Mesa, AZ. This gave Jim the opportunity to enjoy another of his passions, playing golf. Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 54 years, Sandy; daughter Carri (Dan) Vaughn, Phoenix, AZ; son Scott (Sandy) Zweep, Oswego, IL; grandsons, James and Eric Zweep, Patrick Vaughn; sisters, Beverly Bakke, Spring, TX, and Audrey Elliott, of Roseville, CA. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 22, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3801 E. 26th St. ( 26th St. and Bahnson Ave.), Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, May 21, 2015 with family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home (downtown) 507 S. Main Ave, Sioux Falls, SD.
