Description	:	An accidental shooting has claimed the life of James Eugene Oliver, 40-year-old contract painter and former Van Raaite Hosiery Company employee. Mr. Oliver was critically wounded Friday when a .22 automatic rifle he was putting into the back of his automobile accidentally discharges. The slug struck him in the ride side just below the rib cage and passed through his body. Read More	An accidental shooting has claimed the life of James Eugene Oliver, 40-year-old contract painter and former Van Raaite Hosiery Company employee. Mr. Oliver was critically wounded Friday when a .22 automatic rifle he was putting into the back of his automobile accidentally discharges. The slug struck him in the ride side just below the rib cage and passed through his body. The Franklin man was working on a house about three miles south of Franklin and had been shooting birds during his lunch period, according to the investigating officers. He was rushed to Angel Hospital, where he died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. A marine during World War ii, Mr. Oliver served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the local V.F.W. Post and prior to becoming a painter, worked at the local Van Raalte plant for 14 years. Mr. Oliver was the son of the late Bert and Mrs. Bertha Fouts Oliver. Funeral services were conducted the 21st at 2:30 p.m. at the Iotla Baptist Church, of which he was a meber, by the Rev. M.T. Brock, pastor, and the Rev. Manuel Wyatt, a former pastor. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Dick Carswell, Claude Welch, Harold Swafford, Pete Penland, George Reid, Jr., and James Roper. Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife, the former Miss Lois Campbell; two sons, Jerry and Randy; a daughter, Gloria Jean; six brothers, Edgar Oliver, of Phoenix, Ariz., Early Oliver, of Pontiac, Mich., J.H. and Lee Oliver, of Albany, Ga., Paul Oliver, of Leslie, Ga., and Frank Oliver, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and two sisters, Mrs. Roy Mashburn, of Franklin, and Mrs. Wilbur Derise, of Leslie.
