Read More	Popular Creighton Young Man Dead James Manion Jr. Beckoned by Death at Omaha Hospital Was Student at Notre Dame When Stricken with Illness In the nature of an item of interest to our readers, it becomes necessary for us to chronicle the death of James Manion Jr., which occurred at an Omaha hospital last Sunday morning. James Francis Manion was born in Creighton, June 27, 1913, being 19 years, 5 months and 6 days of age at the time of death on December 4, 1932. James attended St. Ludger's Academy in Creighton and graduated with the class of 1930. Thereupon, he entered Notre Dame University at South Bend, Indiana for advanced educational work intending to complete a full professional course. He was stricken with severe intestinal affliction three weeks prior to his death with an acute attack of colitis and complications thereto with culminated in death as stated. It was later learned that a gesture of the affliction beset him six months ago. He was stoic in his determination to be ambitious and continued with his school work until it was necessary to remove him from his classes to the infirmary of the university and there from to a hospital. Later advices and by reason of his personal request he was returned homeward in company with his father as far as Omaha, where it was deemed the greater logic to place him in a hospital for further observation, medical and professional nursing attention. During the one week in the Omaha institution, he gradually became less able physically and although medical science and the training of professional ministrations endeavored valiantly to combat the affliction, death embraced the sufferer, when all that human endeavor could do, had been accomplished. His parents were at his bedside during his final illness and death. This likeable young man met favor with a very wide acquaintance. This fact was emphasized when it was made known that personal solicitations reached his bedside by personal and phone calls and by mail daily during his affliction. The body was returned from Omaha Monday and was met at the station by the students of St. Ludger's high school and an escort of 36 boys were included in the cortege, which wended its way to the James Manion home in Creighton. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 from St. Ludger Church, solemn High Mass being celebrated, the Parish Rector, Father Windolph, being celebrant and father Stahl of Osmond and Father Brady of Plainview, being Deacon and Sub-Deacon. Interment was made in St. Ludger cemetery. Immediate surviving relatives include the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James Manion of Creighton; Mrs. James Palmer, a sister of Denver, Mrs. Raymond Van Overscheide, also a sister, of Omaha; two brothers, Joseph and Thomas and the youngest sister, Monica, at home. It is to be noted that the spacious St. Ludger Church was inadequate to seat the very great number of friends, who desired to be included amongst those, who wished to bestow upon a friend that last final earthly respect. Among out of town relatives and friends, who were in attendance at the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. John Ole Olson, Frank Healey and Paul Riley, Norfolk; Mrs. John H. Hart and Lucille Hartlieb, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. John Wunderlich, Aurora, Nebr.; Mrs. Emerson Croxen, Giltner, Nebr.; Mrs. Mary White, Wichita, Kan.; Thomas manion, wife and sons, William and John of Doniphan, Nebr.; A.P. Schneider and daughter, Agnes of Madison; Mrs. James Palmer, Denver, Colo.; Mr. and Raymond Van Overschelde, Omaha. Active pallbearers were Willis Collen, Francis Carroll. Paul Riley, Walter Rothenburger, George Thompson, Charles Wagner. Honorary pallbearers were Trueman Ernest, Virgil Jackson, Chas. Neyens, Anthony Thompson, Cyril Venhaus, James Wagner.
