Lincoln Journal Star April 29, 2004 James Meisenbach, 83, Minden, died on Thursday, April 29, 2004, at his home in Minden. He was born on Nov. 22, 1920, in Kearney County, near Heartwell to Frank and Anna (Horan) Meisenbach. He grew up in the Heartwell area and graduated from Heartwell High School in 1938. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. He attended Warton Tech School in Litham, England, while in the service with the 12th Armored Division, 119 Engineer Battalion in Germany and France. He returned to Nebraska and married Mary Katherine Crawford on Aug. 19, 1950. He worked for two years in construction on the Harlan County Reservoir and re-entered the service in 1951 to serve in the Korean War with the 247th Aviation Engineer Battalion, returning home in 1952. They farmed in the Heartwell-Minden area and he was active in the Minden community. He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Minden and was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus in Minden. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Glenwood Telephone Co. for 21 years, had served on the church board, was on the Osco Township Board for six years, served on the ASCS County Committee for nine years, and was a member of the Kearney County Board of Supervisors for 12 years. He was an avid sports fan, including UNK Loper Football and Tri-City Storm Hockey. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson and all their activities.
