Description	:	James "Jim" Frank Bowers (84) passed away on June 20th, 2011 following a short illness at a Spokane Hospital. Jim was born on April 2nd, 1927 in Newport, Idaho to Walter and Pauline (Koch) Bowers. Even though he traveled around the country, Jim always considered the Newport area his home returning here over 15 years ago. After attending school in Newport, Jim served his country during WWII with the US Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Breton. On August 11th, 1980 he married Joyce Geary in Newport. Jim was born on April 2nd, 1927 in Newport, Idaho to Walter and Pauline (Koch) Bowers. Even though he traveled around the country, Jim always considered the Newport area his home returning here over 15 years ago. After attending school in Newport, Jim served his country during WWII with the US Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Breton. On August 11th, 1980 he married Joyce Geary in Newport. Joyce preceded him in death in 2005. Jim worked for many years as a car salesman, working in Orange County, California and Alaska. When returning to Newport, Jim worked for many years in the logging industry. He also worked for several years driving truck for "Big K Trucking" in the oil fields in Wyoming. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed being in the outdoors. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Joe "Jody" Bowers of Pomeroy, WA and Diana Painter of Sterling, Alaska; one son, John Larson of Mead, WA; three grand children and two great grandkids; Jim is also survived by a sister, Pauline "Tiny" Bowers of Portland, OR; two nephews, Cary Smith of Newport and Mitchell "Mitch" Bowers of Spokane. Besides his wife, Jim was preceded in death by a son Kenny Bowers in 1974, his parents and a brother, Marvin "Shorty" Bowers in 2010. At his request, no public services will be held. Jim will be inurned at the Newport Cemetery and memorials may be made to the local food bank.
