Description	:	James Franklin, known as Frank, was the son of Henry & Nancy (Kelsay) Anderson. He was born in Cape Gelena, Morgan Co, MO, located in the southeast part of Osage Township, 18 miles south of Versailles. Cape Galena, a small village in Morgan County, was located on an insular piece of land that extended into the Osage River, which designated the name "Cape." Galena was one of the mineral deposits. On June 27, 1880, James, age 8, lived in Osage Township, Morgan Co, MO with his parents, Henry & Nancy Anderson, ages 56 & 40. His siblings were William, age 13; Maggie, 10; Luellen, 9; John, 6; Elmetta, 3; & Jane, 9 months. His father supported the family by farming. Frank, age 28, married Mrs. Elfie Stevens, a widow, in Morgan Co, MO on Feb. 8, 1894. This was his first marriage. Elfie, whose maiden name was Howard, was born in Cape Galena on Nov. 22, 1868, the daughter of Joseph & Sally Ann (Woody) Howard. Elfie was 16 years old when she married Marshall Monroe Stevens, age 20, on Sept. 2, 1884. They had four children: Hettie, born 1886; John Monroe, 1888; Nell, 1890; & Mae, 1891. Marshall was 28 years old when he died in Cape Galena on Jan. 28, 1892. He was buried in Cape Gelena Cemetery. On June 13, 1900, Frank & Elfie Anderson, ages 27 & 31, were renting a farm in Osage Township, Morgan Co, MO with their son Bryan, age 2, and the Stevens children from her first marriage: John, age 11; Nellie, 10; & May, 8. They had been married 6 years; Elfie had given birth to 7 children, but only 5 were still living. Frank farmed to support the family. On May 3, 1910, Frank & Elfie, ages 37 & 40, still lived on their farm in Osage Township. Children living with them were Bryan Anderson, age 12, and May Stevens, 18. They were living in Gladstone, MO when Bryan registered for the WWI draft on Aug. 24, 1918. On April 10, 1930, Frank & Elfie, ages 58 & 62, owned a home valued at $500. He was working for Civil Service as a mail carrier. By 1935 they were living in Saline, Miller Co, MO. On April 24, 1940, Frank & Elfie, ages 67 & 71, owned a home in Saline valued at $800. Frank was farming. Elfie's daughter, Hettie Austin, age 52, divorced, lived with them. They were living in Versailles when Elfie was admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Booneville, Cooper Co, MO for heart related problems complicated by Bronchitis & Emphysema. She had been there one week when she died from at 5 p.m. on Jan. 17, 1952, from "Cardiac Decompensation." She was 83 years old. The informant was shown as Frank Anderson of Versailles. She was buried in Union Cemetery on January 20. Around 1951 Frank was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia. He lived in Rural Osage, about 1j0 miles south of Versailles. Frank was at the home of his son, Bryan, when he died at 11:15 p.m. on Nov. 27, 1954, from a heart problem, Auricular Fibrillation, lasting two hours. He had lived 82 years, 1 month, & 27 days. His son, Bryan, was the informant on his death certificate. News about his death was published in the Jefferson City Post Tribune on Tuesday, November 30, 1954. "Hold Funeral Services For James Anderson Versailles - (Special) - Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Gravois Mills today for James Franklin Anderson, 82. Burial was in Versailles Cemetery. Mr. Anderson, a retired farmer, died Saturday at the home of a son, Bryan Anderson, near Versailles." "James Franklin Anderson died November 27, 1954 at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 7 days. He was a son of Henry and Nancy Kelsay Anderson, born October 20, 1872 in Morgan county, near Caoe Galena. In 1894 he was married to Elfie Stevens. They were the parents of 2 sons. Mr Anderson is survived by 1 son: Bryan Anderson; 1 step-son: John Stevens of Eldon; 3 step-daughters: Mrs. Nell Hackler of Eldon, Mrs. Hettie Austin of Jefferson City and Mrs. Mae White of Columbia; 2 sisters: Mrs. Louella Dearalph and Mrs. Bell Pettigrew of Versailles; 1 brother: Lee Anderson of near Gravois Mills; 1 grandson: Jimmy Anderson who is attached to a unit of US forces in Germany; one great granddaughter: Julie Anderson of Versailles; 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, three years ago; a son: Everett, at the age of 2 years; 1 brother Bill Anderson, Denver Colorado; 2 sisters: Maggie Allen of Wichita Kansas and Mettie Bond of Topeka Kansas; 4 half sisters: Mrs. Jack Purvis, Mary Cash, Sarah Allen and Betty Howser; 3 half brothers: Jessie Anderson, Walter Anderson and Willie Anderson. He belonged to the Presbyterian Church, then the Gravois Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at the Gravois Mills Methodist Church with the Rev. P.H. Wilbanks officiating assisted by G.T. Rolston. Pallbearers: Elwood and Sherman Hackler, Everett and Roy Anderson, Marshall and Joe Howard, all nephews of the deceased. Hymns: Mrs. Donald Bell, Mrs Paul Johnson, Mrs. Ellis James, Charley McKinley, Billy J. Williams, Mrs. Chas Thornton - piano by Mrs. Clarence Boyer. Burial was in the Versailles cemetery."
