Read More	McCARTHY, JAMES FREDERICK—James Frederick McCarthy, 73, of Lincoln died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Lincoln. Jim was born Sept. 5, 1925, in South Sioux City, to James J. and Naomi (Picard) McCarthy. Jim attended Geneva High School and was active in athletics which he reminisced about often. Jim spoke highly of his kindergarten teacher, Evelyn Koehler. He chose to forego his high school graduation ceremony, to serve his country during W.W. II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre as a Naval Seabee from 1943-1945. After returning to Geneva, he married Mary O’Brien in 1952 at St. Helena’s Catholic Church in Grafton. To this union six children were born. Jim later worked at Dorsey Laboratories in Lincoln, retiring in 1991, after 20 years. Jim always cherished the many friendships he made at Dorsey. Jim enjoyed people, pranks, and politics. Some of his pranks involved Harry Porter, Picard’s Pharmacy and the dances in Milligan and Burress. Through the years, he rekindled his Geneva friendships at Alumni Banquets. Some of these include Kenny Hofferber, Jim Biba, Junior Brower, Vaughn Fulton and many others who remember Jim with an amusing personal story. He is survived by one son, Michael and wife, Kitty; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Tim Wilbeck; Kelly and Mark Champion; Bridget and Bruce Franson; Mary Louise and Roger Lundberg; and Shirley and Randy Kleinschmidt. Grandchildren: Michael Joy; Erin Champion; Jay, Chris, and Molly McCarthy, Carly Franson; Joey and Bridget Lundberg; and Christy, Morgan, Jennifer, and Jacki Kleinschmidt. Jim will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. A rosary was conducted by Msgr. Ivan Vap at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Geneva on Tuesday, Jan. 5. A military graveside service will be conducted by Msgr. Vap and Geneva VFW Post Honor Guard on Wednesday, January 6 at the Geneva Public Cemetery. Servings as Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Hofferber, Jim Biba, Warren Ratliff, Dick Pierson, John Brower, Vaughn Fulton, Bob Fessler, and Mike O’Brien. Music was provided by Shelbi Clark, who sang “Amazing Grace” and “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling”. A lunch was served by the Geneva VFW Post. The Nebraska Signal January 6th, 1999 page 11.
