A resident of Nutley (NJ) for more than fifty years, Mr. Gilmore was elected councilman at large April 14, 1902. He was one of the first members of the Memorial Parkway commission which was created in 1920. In September 1935 he was appointed superintendent of parks to fill the unexpired term of the late Dr. George R. Philhower, in which office he served without remuneration until his death.In the past few years, Mr. Gilmore had devoted much of his time to the Nutley parkway system and frequently could be seen walking through the park on inspection trips and consulting with parkway employees. Mr. Gilmore's health began to fail last fall when he and Mrs. Gilmore went to Florida to spend the winter months. He returned to Nutley in March and since that time, he had not been active. Born in Ballinderry, Ireland, Mr. Gilmore went to Canada as a young man and studied for the ministry at Wyckliff college in Toronto. He later organized the linen importing firm of Gilmore, Bermond company of New York, of which he was president at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Howell Gilmore, and three sons: Cecil at home; Walter of New York and Frederick of Nambour, Australia. From Nutley (NJ) Sun, June 1, 1945
