James GLOTFELTY, one of the best and best known residents of Liberty Township, died at his home Thursday, after a brief period of confinement to the sick room. He had been a sufferer from an affection of the lungs for several years, and for some time past had fully realized that the hand of death was upon him. Mr. GLOTFELTY was born in Van Buren County in January 1846, and was one of a large family of brothers who have made their homes in that county and Jefferson and have been closely identified with their progress and history. His wife, who survives him, was formerly Miss Maggie CUNNINGHAM, and they were united in marriage in Des Moines Township. Five children of this union are now living, William, Irvin, Emmett, Roy and May Glotfelty, all married but the daughter. All of this good man's life had been spent in the two counties named, and for more than twenty-five years he had lived on the farm in southern Liberty Township where his death occurred. Mr. GLOTFELTY was not only an excellent Christian man, but since 1885 had been a minister of the Brethren Church. He had ever commanded the esteem and respect of his fellows and neighbors, had served as president of the county mutual insurance association, and been honored with many places of responsibility and trust. There are many friends throughout the county who will regret his death. His remains were interred in the Brethren Cemetery, two miles southeast of Batavia, Friday. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Abraham WOLF and Rev. Daniel HOLDER.
