Read More	The Muscatine Journal, Tuesday, July 8, 1937 West Liberty --- James Dickerson, 85, died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Whitacre, on East Fourth street. He had been in failing health for the past year and a half. He never fully recovered from a stroke suffered early last month. Mr. Dickerson was born on June 22, 1852 in Coshocton county, O., the son of Isaac and Sarah Dickerson, and was the last surviving member of a large family. At the age of 13 he came to West Liberty with his parents in a covered wagon, and has spent most of his life in this vicinity. He attended rural schools in this vicinity. He married Laura Jane Whisler, of West Liberty at Atlantic, Ia., on March 26, 1879. The couple lived on a farm east of West Liberty for a few years before moving to Rising City, Neb., where they lived until 1896, when they returned here to make their home. He was engaged in the carpenter trade here after his return from Nebraska. He was a member of the Christian church and the I. O. O. F. and Rebekah lodges. Surviving are his widow, and one daughter, Mrs. Ray Whitacre of this place. A son, George Oscar, preceded him in death in 1893. The body is at the S. C. Snider Funeral chapel awaiting services at 3:30 p. m. Wednesday. The Rev. Frank W. Sutton, pastor of the Christian church, will be in charge, and burial will be at Greenwood cemetery.
