Description	:	James Harold Covert, 76, of 959 S. Webster, died 8:55am May 8, 2003 at the home of his daughter, near Indianola. He was born June 23, 1926 in Ottumwa to Edward Elsworth and Velvie Alice Barker Covert. He married L. Annabelle 'Annie" Granby July 31, 1947. She preceded him in death March 26, 1991. Read More	James Harold Covert, 76, of 959 S. Webster, died 8:55am May 8, 2003 at the home of his daughter, near Indianola. He was born June 23, 1926 in Ottumwa to Edward Elsworth and Velvie Alice Barker Covert. He married L. Annabelle 'Annie" Granby July 31, 1947. She preceded him in death March 26, 1991. A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He worked for 27 years at John Morrell and Co. and for 10 years at Lin-Den. He was a member of Calvary Open Bible Church; O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion, a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of Ottumwa Saddle Club. He played music often at the Good Samaritian Center. Surviving are four daughters, Judy Vannoy, Nina Berry and Jammie Heckart all of Indianola, Carol Sallee of Ottumwa; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Deliah Simpson of Excelsior Springs, Mo. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cheryl Lee Covert; a grandaughter; four brothers, Howard Leroy, Paul, Walter, and Vernard Covert; and five sisters, Dora Lovell, Maxine Kinnman, Martha Simmers, Cordie Dunning Hopkins and Mildred Waller. Funeral services will be 3pm Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Charles King officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Military servifes will be conducted by Walter B Shafer Post #775 Veterans for Foreigh Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Visitation will begin 10 am today at the funeral home with the family present 5 to 7pm. Memorials may be made to Calvary Open Bible Church or Mercy Hospital Foundation for Dialysis Unit.
