Breeding, 61, of Cedar Rapids, died of a heart attack Wednesday morning at his home. He had been a resident of Ottumwa most of his life prior to moving to Cedar Rapids nine years ago. He was born June 29, 1898 in Davis county, the son of Lemuel and Zella Watts Breedings. He was a veteran of World war I. He entered the army April 26, 1918 at Des Moines and was discharged March 24, 1919 at Camp Dodge. He had been a machinist for Fruehauf Trailer Co. in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Breeding was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and several Masonic orders. Surviving are four sons, Harold L., Vern R., and Robert Breeding of Ottumwa and Benjamin Breeding of Bloomfield; six grandchildren; a brother, Herman Breeding of Bloomfield; and two sisters, Mrs. Iola Johnson of Belmond, Iowa, and Mrs. Daisy Krochake of Portland, Ore. The body was returned to Ottumwa late Wednesday. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel with the Rev. William D. Scott of the Finley Avenue Baptist church in charge. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. “Breeding Funeral,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” March 4, 1960: Funeral services for James F. Breeding, 61, former Ottumwan who died at his home in Cedar Rapids Wednesday morning, will be Saturday at 1:30 at the Johnson funeral chapel. The Rev. William D. Scott, pastor of the Finley Avenue Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery where the local American Legion post will be in charge of military services at the grave.
