July 9, 1824 - 4/24/1903 "The News-Herald" Hillsboro, Ohio, October 18, 1906, Image 1 J. H. Anderson, Dead James Henry Anderson, second son of the late Capt. Tennason Barbara Anderson and Nancy Farley Anderson, was born in Cumberland County, Va., December 3, 1826, and died October 12, 1906, aged 79 years, 10 months and 9 days. About 1832, Capt. Anderson brought his wife and five children to Ohio that they might not be reared in a slave state. They settled in the Scioto valley near Piketon. An accident deprived the children of the care of their mother while young. The father married again and this mother cared for the family and made her home with this son in her declining years. The health of his father's family not being good while in the Scioto valley he removed to a farm east of Hillsboro. He was united in marriage to Rosanna Brouse, January 16, 1851. One daughter Eliza Maria and one son, Charles Wesley, with three grand children survive him. An aged sister, Mrs. Virginia A. Roberts of Oxford, Indiana, and an invalid sister-in-law, Mrs. Samuel T. Anderson, of Snow Hill, are still living. His wife preceded him to the other shore three and one-half years ago. He united with the M. E. Church in early life, and with his family attended church at Auburn Chapel until he removed to Hillsboro. He contributed freely to the support of his church and all worthy benevolences of every kind were not turned away empty-handed. The only limit in his hospitality and gifts of charity were the needs in the case. His church and country received generous support so long as health and vitality permitted. In the earlier years of his life he engaged extensively in farming and the raising of fine stock. After his removal to Hillsboro he was engaged in the grain business. In 1864, he had a severe sun stroke, from the effects of which he never recovered. The latter years of his life were clouded with disease and deprived him of the pleasures and comforts of home associations so dear to him.
