Description	:	Among the settlers of 1858 were: James H. Clark, L. S. Cutler, D. W. Butterfield, and John B. Caswell. James H. Clark, another early settler of Lincoln township, came here in 1 858 and located on his present farm. He was born in Norfolk county, England, June 4, 1826. Butterfield, and John B. Caswell. James H. Clark, another early settler of Lincoln township, came here in 1 858 and located on his present farm. He was born in Norfolk county, England, June 4, 1826. At twelve years of age he came to America with his uncle and settled in Livingston Co., N. Y., remaining there three years, then moved to Winnebago Co., 111. He remained with his uncle until he was eighteen years of age, and then commenced to do for himself. For several years he spent the winters in the pineries of Wisconsin, and the summers in rafting lumber down the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers to St. Louis, until 1858, when he came here. On his farm he has a good set of buildings and a very pleasant home. He was married in 1856 to Lucinda Short, born in St. Lawrence Co., N. Y. They have had fourteen children, ten of whom are now living—Mary, Edward, Robert and Hattie (twins), Elsie, Lizzie, Laura, Dennis, Amy and Arthur.
