Description	:	James Henry York, 92, old time resident of Kearney County, Nebraska, died Saturday, May 23, 1942, at the home of his son, Harley, in Holdrege, Phelps County, Nebraska. Born January 27, 1850, near Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa, he was a son of the late Newton Conrad York and Mary Margaret Layton York. He was united in marriage with Martha Jane Harding of Knoxville, Iowa, November 17, 1870. To this union were born six sons and four daughters. Read More	James Henry York, 92, old time resident of Kearney County, Nebraska, died Saturday, May 23, 1942, at the home of his son, Harley, in Holdrege, Phelps County, Nebraska. Born January 27, 1850, near Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa, he was a son of the late Newton Conrad York and Mary Margaret Layton York. He was united in marriage with Martha Jane Harding of Knoxville, Iowa, November 17, 1870. To this union were born six sons and four daughters. Mr. and Mrs. York with their eldest son, Harley, came to Nebraska in November 1873 locating in York County, later moving to Kearney County near Hildreth. In 1905 they moved to Minden where he has since resided. Martha passed away in April 1914. On June 3, 1916, Mr. York was united in marriage with Mrs. Elvira Olivet Smith Garner of Minden, Nebraska. Since that time he has been making his home with his son at Holdrege. Mr. York was a member of the Methodist church at Minden and was a faithful attendant while he was living here. His memory will be cherished by all those who knew him. Besides his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a son and a daughter, George and Georgiana, twins, who died in infancy; a daughter, Sadie G. York Vedene; and a son, James Chester York. Surviving are his sons, Harley Thornton York, Holdrege, Nebraska, John W. York, Akron, Colorado, Francis Asbury "Frank" York, Alliance, Nebraska, and Charles H. York, Twin Falls, Idaho; daughters, Elva Edith York Franklin, Alliance, Nebraska, and Mary Elizabeth York Lanning, Kimball, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, six step-children and many friends also mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 25, 1942, from the Methodist church in Minden, Nebraska, with Reverend A.W. Johnson in charge. Interment was in the Minden Cemetery.
