Description	:	James Herbert Sneed, age 89, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Russellville, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in Sioux City. A son of the late Luther and Lula Hall Sneed, he was born September 15, 1918, in Ecru, Mississippi. He attended high school in Bradford, Texas, and attended South West Texas State and Arkansas Polytechnic College (now Arkansas Tech University) in Russellville. He served as a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 until 1945. He then worked as a pilot for the state of Arkansas and aviation instructor at Arkansas... Read More	James Herbert Sneed, age 89, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Russellville, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in Sioux City. A son of the late Luther and Lula Hall Sneed, he was born September 15, 1918, in Ecru, Mississippi. He attended high school in Bradford, Texas, and attended South West Texas State and Arkansas Polytechnic College (now Arkansas Tech University) in Russellville. He served as a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 until 1945. He then worked as a pilot for the state of Arkansas and aviation instructor at Arkansas Tech. He was a pilot for Sinclair Oil Company for fifteen years and for I.B.P. for twenty-five years before retiring as the head of their aviation department in 1990. He was a member of the Abu Bekr Shriners and the Scottish Rite, and also was very active at Southern Hills Baptist Church as a volunteer and as a member of numerous committees. His greatest passion was flying, although he also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and took up the sport of golf following his retirement. He married Laverne Reynolds on March 19, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She passed away on November 14, 1970. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Carlene Gotcher and U. V. Baxter; and a brother, W. A. Sneed. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Cripps, who he married on December 3, 1971, in Sioux City. Additional survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann and Gene Fosnight of Boulder, Colorado; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Linda Sneed of Los Angeles, California; two step-sons and a step-daughter-in-law: Mark and Sandra Cripps and Doug Cripps, all of Sioux City; two grandchildren; Elizabeth Fosnight and Jennifer Sneed; and step-grandchild, Russ Cripps; an aunt, Nona Mae McCoy of Mississippi; and many nephews and nieces and cousins. The funeral service was held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Stephen Davis. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery near Danville, by Shinn Funeral Service.
