Houser Died Wednesday in Henderson Had Resided There Nearly 50 Years; Funeral Sunday Afternoon James H. Houser, well known resident of Henderson and vicinity for nearly a half century passed away at his home in Henderson Wednesday evening, March 13, after a brief illness. Funeral services were held in the Christian church in Henderson Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. P. H. Green, pastor of the Christian church in Carson. Mrs. Alta Forrestal and Miss Ida Simmonds, accompanied by Melva Christofferson at the piano, Sang "Asleep in Jesus," "Whispering Hope," and "Sweet Bye and Bye." Burial was in the Henderson cemetery. The pall bearers included five grandsons: Earl Boileau, Boe, Ivan, Ernest and Henry Houser, a cousin, Merrill Houser, and L. W. Triplett and Win Castor, old friends. The following tribute was given: James H., son of Jacob and Martha Houser, was born in Fulton county, Pa., Oct. 4, 1850, and departed this life at his home in Henderson after a brief illness, Wednesday evening, March 13, 1935, at 5:30 o'clock, aged 84 years, five months, and nine days. Following the father's death which occurred in Pennsylvania the mother and children came to Illinois in 1866 where the subject of this brief sketch remained for a period of 10 years. While residing in Illinois the mother was called by death to her heavenly home. In 1876 he came to Iowa and settled on his farm in Montgomery county, He was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Evans in February 1880. This union was blessed with four children - two sons and two daughters, as follows: wilburn and Mrs. Adda Boileau of Henderson, Samuel and Mrs. Ella Hansen of Omaha. In 1892 He purchased land just east of Henderson where he resided till 1900 when he removed to Henderson where he continued to reside till called by death to his heavenly home. In 1888 he united with the Baptist church and in 1904 he united with the Henderson Church of Christ. The wife and mother of his children preceded him to the heavenly home having departed this life April 15, 1891. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Martha McChesney in October, 1899. Soon after marriage they removed from the farm to Henderson where they resided till the living wife was called by death to her heavenly home in October, 1925. Since that time he and his daughter, Adda, have made their home together. For sme years he had been in declining health but his illness ending in death was due to a stroke of apoplexy which he suffered Monday evening, March ll. His death came as a sweet release freeing his spirit from its tenement of clay that it might return to God who gave it. He was a man of exemplary character, upright and honorable In all his relations with his fellowmen, having the love, confidence and respect of all who knew him. For years he was an honored and faithful elder of the Church of Christ, an humble, earnest, consecrated Christian, faithful unto death. The world is better for hes having lived in it. He was a
