James married Dorothy Gee (1834-1874), daughter of John Plaxton and Elizabeth Cates, on April 20, 1859 in Oxford, Ontario. The Late James Holben ------------------ James Holben died January 20 at the home of his son, Arthur, at Kalispel, Mont., after a lingering illness, the result of paralysis, aged 84 years, 22 days. He was a native of England, and came to Canada in 1852, and to Magnolia in 1875. Here he farmed and later established the Magnolia cheese factory at the old court house, which did a large business for the times. He continued to reside in the county until 19 years ago, when he moved to Alberta province Canada. The past few years he lived part of the time with his son, George, in Allen township, and the remainder in Montana. He leaves 5 sons, Ernie of Ponoka, Alberta, George, in Allen township, Arthur and Chas. of Montana, and another son, Chas. W. in California, the two Charles being twins. Two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Bolch, of Canada, and Jennie, of Sun Dance, Wyomng; Mrs. Frances Gee, of Mondami, Iowa, and Arthur Holben, of Ponoka, are deceased's sisters and brother. The remains were brought here Monday, January 26th, funeral services from the M.E. church Tuesday at 11 a.m., and interment in Magnolia cemetery. James was a genial, kindly man, and is kindly remembered by a number of older settlers. The funeral and burial was at Magnolia, the service being conducted by the Masonic order. A kind, friend, a worthy citizen and a good man has gone on.
