Description	:	James I. Blankenship Jan. 3, 1923 — March 11, 2008 Former North Olympic Peninsula resident James I. Blankenship died in Vancouver, Wash., of congestive heart failure. He was 85. He was born in Galvin to Lew Gene and Viola Mae (Holt) Blankenship, and came to the Peninsula in 1928. He graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1942. He married Lillian Luttrell in Port Townsend on Jan. 27, 1944. Mr. Blankenship, who was employed by Crown Zellerbach in Port Townsend until his retirement, remained on the Peninsula until 1999. He was born in Galvin to Lew Gene and Viola Mae (Holt) Blankenship, and came to the Peninsula in 1928. He graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1942. He married Lillian Luttrell in Port Townsend on Jan. 27, 1944. Mr. Blankenship, who was employed by Crown Zellerbach in Port Townsend until his retirement, remained on the Peninsula until 1999. He enjoyed early television shows, especially westerns and comedies, and thought that country music was the only kind worth listening to. In later years, he tuned in to watch games of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks, in addition to enjoying family picnics and area automobile rides. An avid dog lover, he always had one during his life. Mr. Blankenship is survived by son and daughter-in-law James and Holly Blankenship of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Kenny Wheat of Elizabethtown, Ky.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother, John, and sisters-in-law, Marcella and Lorraine Blankenship, all of Port Townsend. His wife died in 1999. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Steven; brothers Arthur and George Blankenship; and sisters Elva Arey and Velna Walker. Services: None. His ashes were interred in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Townsend, with Evergreen Memorial Gardens of Vancouver in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Donations in his name to a local Humane Society.
